Whether you’re getting lip filler for the first time or refreshing with cheek or jawline contouring, preparation and aftercare play a huge role in your final results. At MiraMed and Day Spa, we want you to love your look and your recovery process. The good news? With a few simple steps—before and after your appointment—you can reduce your chances of bruising and swelling significantly.

Here’s what you need to know to prep like a pro and recover with ease.

Before Your Filler Appointment: Set Yourself Up for Success

1. Start Taking Arnica

Begin taking Arnica Montana tablets 1–2 days before your appointment. Arnica is a natural, homeopathic remedy that helps minimize bruising and supports faster healing. You can continue taking it for a few days post-treatment as well.

Pro tip: You can also apply arnica gel topically to the treatment area after your appointment.

2. Drink Pineapple Juice (Yes, Really!)

Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that naturally helps reduce inflammation and swelling. Start drinking fresh pineapple juice (or taking a bromelain supplement) a day or two before your treatment for best results.

3. Avoid Blood Thinners & Certain Supplements

To reduce your risk of bruising, avoid the following for at least 5–7 days prior to treatment (unless medically necessary):

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
  • Naproxen (Aleve)
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Garlic supplements
  • Alcohol (especially 24–48 hours before)

Always consult your physician before stopping any medications.

4. Schedule Smart

Try not to book your filler treatment right before a major event. We recommend giving yourself 7–10 days of cushion time so any swelling or minor bruising can fully subside.

After Your Appointment: Promote a Smooth Recovery

1. Apply Ice Gently

Use a clean, soft cloth-wrapped ice pack for 10-minute intervals on and off for the first few hours after treatment. This helps reduce swelling and discomfort. Avoid direct ice contact with your skin.

2. Stay Upright

Keep your head elevated and avoid lying down for at least 4 hours post-treatment. Sleeping slightly elevated the first night can also help reduce swelling.

3. Avoid Heat & Strenuous Activity

Skip saunas, hot tubs, hot showers, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours. Heat and elevated heart rate can increase swelling and bruising.

4. Hold Off on Makeup

Let your skin breathe! Avoid applying makeup to the injection area for at least 12–24 hours to prevent irritation or bacteria from entering the tiny injection sites.

5. Continue Arnica & Pineapple Juice

Keep taking your arnica tablets and sipping pineapple juice for a few days post-treatment to support your body’s natural healing response.

6. Avoid Touching or Massaging

Unless your provider instructs you otherwise, avoid massaging or pressing on the treated area. Let the filler settle naturally for the best results.
